It is also important to pressure wash your home prior to apply paint on the exterior surfaces. You should also allow the exterior surfaces to properly dry before caulk and paint are applied. If you have more amount of shade surrounding your home, it may need an extra day to dry.
What is the Ideal Temperature for Exterior Painting?
There are many different paint manufacturers who set minimum temperature application on their labels. There are some paint manufacturers who say that you can paint as cold as 35 degrees. However, the ideal temperature for painting your exterior walls is no less than 40-45 degrees. This is even stipulated on that temperature staying at that level for 5 hours or more consistently. It is also important to provide the paint with a surface temperature to enable it to cure properly. If there is a forecast of raining, you need to make sure to stop the paint job in case there is not enough time to allow each coat to dry at least four to five hours. In case you want a much deeper color change, apply two coats of paint, and give longer time to allow for the added tint in the paint.
Think Twice Before Proceeding:
When it comes to paint the exterior surfaces of your house with surface temperature of below 40 degree, it is good to think twice about having that project started. It may be better to wait with your painting project, if you find that the temperature is going to be fluctuating in the below 40-degree mark for a couple of weeks, and not much sunlight through.
